With the publication in the Official Gazette dated 12 March 2024 (No. 32487), the former “Rules for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea” have been repealed and replaced by the “Regulation on the Prevention of Collisions at Sea” issued by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
The new Regulation introduces a comprehensive framework governing the conduct of all vessels, regardless of flag, operating within Turkish maritime jurisdiction and related areas, with the aim of preventing collisions at sea.
Pursuant to the Regulation, vessels falling within its scope are subject to the provisions of the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 (COLREG 1972). The Convention is accessible via the website of the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs.
In addition, vessels are required to carry on board both the Regulation and the latest version of COLREG 1972.
Failure to comply with the Regulation may result in administrative action in accordance with the applicable legislation.
